Miller Friel Moves D.C. Headquarters to Accommodate Growth

Looking Down M Street, Washington, DC

On October 1, 2011, we started Miller Friel, PLLC and moved into our current space at 2101 L. Street, Washington, DC. Over the past three years, we achieved some incredible results for our clients. Highlights include:

  • a stunning victory in a bad faith, punitive damages trial against AIG for a major energy company;
  • a much-needed win in a bet-the-company D&O insurance arbitration for a NYSE listed technology company; and
  • a favorable settlement achieved through litigation in a Typhoon property damage case for a large biotech/life sciences company.

These are but a few of the many positive results we have achieved for our clients during this time. Our untarnished record of delivering wins for Miller Friel clients remains intact.

Given these results, we have seen an incredible growth in both work and number of clients. We simply have had more work than we could efficiently handle out of our office at 2101 L Street, so we had to move.

Our new space at 1200 New Hampshire Avenue is one of Washington’s historic high-end law firm locations. Starting on Monday, October 6, 2014, we will be occupying the prime portion of the top floor of 1200 New Hampshire, a location that was once the corporate headquarters of Dow Lohnes, one of the leading telecommunications law firms in the world, which merged with Cooley LLP on January 1, 2014. The address also hosts the D.C. offices of Chadbourne and Parke, LLP.

Our acquisition of this new space also nicely illustrates some of the trends we are seeing with law firms. Mid-sized general-purpose law firms such as Dow Lohnes are finding opportunities through mergers. Whereas, boutique firms such as ours, who specialize in one particular area of the law, and deliver in that one area better than any other law firm, are also growing, but in a very different way. Insurance coverage law, with its complexities and inherent conflicts, is ideally suited to this kind of boutique practice. The reason for our growth is not the effective cross selling of clients on other practice areas. The reason for our growth is our client’s successes. This is also the reason for our move.

If you find yourself in the area, please stop by and say hello. Our phone numbers and emails have not changed, nor has our passion for delivering results and solutions for our clients.
