Overview

Paul Zevnik has more than 40 years of experience in insurance, indemnity and risk transfer, advising clients in the procurement of insurance, in litigating insurance disputes and in establishing and managing insurance captives, qualified settlement funds and other special purpose vehicles.  His experience extends from the courtroom to the boardroom, embracing trial and appellate practice, arbitration, mediation, advice and counsel, bankruptcy and restructuring and private and public company transactions and financial reporting.  His experience includes:

  • General liability, umbrella and excess coverage;
  • Errors and omissions including directors and officers policies;
  • Property policies, including business interruption;
  • Fidelity;
  • Media liability;
  • Employment practices liability;
  • Mortgage insurance;
  • Pollution Legal Liability;
  • Representation and warranty coverage;
  • Difference-in-conditions and
  • Manuscript policies.

He has litigated cases in bankruptcy courts and has litigated, mediated or settled cases in more than 30 jurisdictions. He has briefed or argued cases before the highest courts of California, Rhode Island, Iowa, Maryland and Minnesota, and has briefed or argued cases before eight federal appellate circuits.  He is admitted to the Bars of the District of Columbia, California and Pennsylvania as well as the United States Supreme Court and various federal courts.

He is best known for his global insurance recovery efforts on behalf of policyholders encompassing all known and unknown product liability, tort and environmental claims and operations in a single strategically-located forum; for his use of creative settlement techniques,  through Internal Revenue Code Section 468B qualified settlement funds and three-party reinsurance contracts; and for pursuit and use of insurance in bankruptcies and restructuring including through the use of special purpose vehicles.
